Cannabis Super Women: Mothers Mary

Hey fellow cannabis moms, have you ever found a Facebook group that you just love?? Like for real love and enjoy being a part of. One where there is no drama, just understanding and support. It sounds like I’m describing a nonexistent thing right?
However, There are a couple cannabis groups on FB that I am a active member of that I feel are truly helpful and supportive environments. One of those groups is called Mothers Mary, not only do I love the atmosphere in this group but the owners Jordana Zabitsky-Wener and Annie Bertrand are very active within the group. They are always doing lives and sharing educational information for everyone in the group. This is why I was super excited when they agreed to be a part of my Cannabis Super Women series.

  • When did you know you wanted to be a part of the cannabis industry?

We both suffer from mental illness and have both been victims to our health care system. This led us to cannabis as a treatment. It also lit the fire to start advocating for mothers with mental illness as well as how to use cannabis consciously to avoid furthering stigma. This was the year leading to Canadian legalization, so the timing was spot on.

  • Were you afraid of judgment?

We both deal with negative judgement and criticism for our mental health and cannabis use, so why not just use our voice to spread awareness and education instead of letting the nay-sayers win?

  • When you began was cannabis legal where you live?

No it wasn’t. We originally started talking about medical use and urging people to get medical access. We became more liberal after legalization even with all of the red tape we personally still experience here in Quebec.

  • What made you have a passion for cannabis?

Have you ever tried it? The immediate mental health relief is everything.

  • Do you consume? How long have you been consuming?

Annie was self medicating since the age of 16 and Jordana started self medicating after cannabis became medically legal in Canada but without a prescription.

  • What do you consume….. Bowl, bong, blunt, joint, edible, tincture, etc.

We consume cannabis mostly by smoking, yet we know the benefits are greater with oils, tinctures and edibles. We strive to come away from smoking and go towards vaping flower.

  • What cannabis myth bothers you the most?

That it’s more dangerous then alcohol

  • Indica or Sativa?

Why choose? It’s mood dependent

  •  Do you think cannabis will be legal federally in the US in 2020?

With what is currently going on, we don’t think it is on the top of the priority list for politicians right now.

  • What does a normal day look like for you?

Creating content, fostering our community as well as the industry. Typically there are always 4-5 balls up in the air, It’s an exciting time to be alive and working for ourselves!

  • Do you face any scrutiny for being a woman in this business?

No, as a matter of fact this industry is full of amazing women even though its 60% run by males. We are doing everything we can to fight any scrutiny there is. We can handle it.

  • What do you want to say to other women who want to get involved in the cannabis industry?

Be so clear about who you are and what you goals and values are because it’s tough. Also, don’t expect to make money over night. It takes hard work and years to become a profitable start up business.

  • What is your favorite strain? Why?

Jordana likes Holy Grail for pain and anxiety and Annie likes Blue Dream for almost everything.

  • What do you hope to see happen in the cannabis industry in the future?

Less red tape. Right now there are so many restrictions in this space and so much potential. Compared to the US market, the Canadian is struggling to become profitable. When the restrictions loosen up, there will be money to be made.

  • What are your goals with your business?

To have world domination 😂 Just kidding…or are we??  Our goals include wellness centers and seasonal wellness retreats along with globally empowering cannamoms to be their best selves through our coaching program.

  • What is your favorite weed song?

We don’t know any

  • Do you educate people or get involved in legalization?

We educate our community through our Mombership Program and Live videos in our free community on Facebook.

  • Who inspires you?

The Mommy Jane & Cheryl Shuman.

  • What is your favorite motivational quote?

“Be the change you want to see in the world” Ghandi
